+How deep is the base?
4" compacted gravel for patios/walkways. 8-12" for driveways. Plus 1" of screeded sand on top.
+How many pavers per sq ft?
Standard 4×8": 4.5 per sq ft. 6×6": 4 per sq ft. 12×12": 1 per sq ft. Plus 5-10% waste.
+Do I need edge restraint?
Yes — always. Without edge restraint, pavers shift and separate. Use aluminum L-channel or concrete curb.
+What sand to use?
Bedding layer: coarse concrete sand (NOT play sand). Joints: polymeric sand that hardens when wet to prevent weeds.
