Calculate wall area minus windows and doors. Add 10% for waste. Siding is sold in "squares" (100 sq ft).
+What siding lasts longest?
Fiber cement (Hardie): 30-50 years. Vinyl: 20-40 years. Wood: 15-30 years with maintenance. Brick: 100+ years.
+Should I remove old siding?
Not required for vinyl over wood. But inspect for rot and moisture issues first. Two layers of rigid siding must be removed.
+What is the cheapest siding?
Vinyl at $3-5/sq ft installed. Fiber cement is $5-8/sq ft. Wood is $6-10/sq ft. Stone veneer is $12-20/sq ft.
