When to Use Bags vs Ready-Mix

Under 0.5 cubic yards — Use bags. A truck delivery minimum is usually 1 yard and costs $125+ just for delivery.
0.5 - 1.5 cubic yards — Could go either way. Compare bag cost vs truck delivery + concrete cost.
Over 1.5 cubic yards — Almost always cheaper to order a ready-mix truck. Call local concrete plants for quotes.

Always add 10% extra to your calculation for waste, uneven ground, and spillage
Work in small batches — mix only what you can pour in 30 minutes
Use the right water ratio — typically 3 quarts per 80lb bag. Too much water weakens concrete
Rent a mixer for projects over 20 bags (~$50/day) to save your back
